Read This to Find Out How to Spot a Phishing E-Mail

Would You Know What a Phishing Email Looks Like or Would You Click on Virus Unknowingly?

Usually, these emails look 100% normal and include tracking numbers, Facebook alerts, bank letters and more. That’s why they’re so dangerous because they look exactly like an email you would receive from your bank, Facebook or a colleague.

What Is a Phishing Email?

A phishing email is a fake email that is purposefully designed to look legitimate and comes from a trusted source. A hacker does all of this in the hopes of getting you to give up your login information or download a virus.

How Can You Tell If a Phishing Email Is Legitimate? Here’s a Few Telltale Signs…

  • Is the link legitimate? To find out, follow these steps.
    1. In the email, hover over the URL without actually clicking to see what website they’re trying to direct you to.
    2. If it’s a suspicious or mismatched link, delete the email immediately. Instead, just go to the site directly by typing it into your browser.
  • Does the email have poor grammar or spelling errors?
  • Is it asking you to verify your login information or asking you for personal information like your social security or bank account number?
  • Is the offer too good to be true?
