For Today’s Tuesday Tech Tip, I’m coming to you from Nashville, Tennessee, at the Robin Robbins event here. I want to talk to you about wireless security and why you shouldn’t use public Wi-Fi.
When you’re staying in a hotel, even a nice hotel, you never, ever, ever want to use public Wi-Fi. You don’t want to use public Wi-Fi, anywhere.
I’ll tell you why. Bad actors can not only gain access to your machine but also get in the middle of your email and other transmissions that you’re sending and receiving from your computer. They do what’s called a “man-in-the-middle” attack. They’re able to steal credentials. They’re able to get in between emails that you are sending to clients, possibly with sensitive documents on them.
I’ve just seen this over and over as of late. This is a major factor. Public Wi-Fi is not secure. So you should never get on public Wi-Fi.
Second, go ahead and join me on April 28 of this month. Just look around on our social media accounts and you’ll see it. I’m going to be doing a webinar that talks a lot about this email issue that we’re seeing in the marketplace. I’ll also be talking about the things that you need to have in place to protect yourself. So stay safe out there.
